Breakrooms, Kitchens, and Kitchenettes

Breakrooms, kitchens, and kitchenettes support legally required breaks for many employees at Stanford. During the pandemic, Santa Clara County is emphasizing the importance of limiting access to breakrooms and break areas to the extent possible, and especially limiting eating and drinking in these spaces, in order to inhibit transmission of the virus. If you currently ‘break in place’, please continue to do so, just ensure you complete your break in a socially distanced manner.

Employees may use microwaves, refrigerators, and other appliances in break areas, but areas are closed for eating. Employees should wear face coverings and observe a 6-foot minimum distance when entering break areas for these purposes. Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds before using appliances. Clear signage should be provided in the break area to support these requirements.
